RosNOU hosted the annual charity event “Donor Day”, in which 32 people took part. There were many more people willing to participate, but potential donors must undergo strict selection based on medical criteria.
Every semester representatives of the Blood Center of the Federal Medical-Biological Agency visit RosNOU, and anyone over the age of 18 can come, donate blood and save someone’s life.
The Donor Day is organized by the Department of Youth Policy and Educational Work and the Volunteer Corps of RosNOU. For the campaign, the university clears out a large auditorium that houses registration tables and donor health check stations, couches and blood drive stations.
Before donation, Blood Center doctors examine participants and take blood for a quick test to identify medical contraindications. Donors often have low blood pressure in the morning. To restore it and increase blood sugar, doctors send volunteers to drink sweet tea with lean cookies in another audience.
This is not the first time for many people to donate blood. This year there is a new tradition — to present letters of gratitude to honorary donors who have had four or more donations at RosNOU. In addition, each participant in the action is exempt from studying and receives compensation for lunch in the amount of 1,270 rubles. Some give even this money to charity.
Since my first year, I have participated in all Donor Day events. Firstly, I like doing good for people, and secondly, I spend the money I get from donating blood to help animal shelters. You get a kind of cycle of good deeds in nature. It’s not hard for me, but it can help others a lot.
In general, the entire organization of Donor Day is at the highest level, from tables for filling out donor forms to tea and cookies after donating blood. The medical workers are very friendly, not intimidating at all. On the contrary, they make you feel at ease.

The main heroes of the action are RosNOU volunteers, who not only help in the organization, but also donate blood themselves.
I joined the corps because I love helping people and making this world a kinder place. Donating blood, it seems to me, is the least I can do. Who knows, maybe at a critical moment some person will be lacking exactly my 450 ml of blood?
