Russian New University (RosNOU) is one of the leading higher educational institutions of Russia with respect to the education of foreign nationals.
Pre-university training of foreign students plays an important role in the educational process. The major goal of the Department is to provide students with a firm base of Russian language skills and a clearer idea of where they want to go next in their studies, whether at RosNOU or another university or college. The Foundation Studies Department provides foreign citizens with Russian language courses and testing for levels of Russian language proficiency, taking a comprehensive exam in the Russian language, Russian history, and basics of Russian legislation.
The Foundation Studies Department was established at Russian New University in 2003. Since then more than 2,000 foreign students from 35 countries have graduated from RosNOU under the Department.

At the Foundation Studies Department students study not only the Russian language but also other subjects such as mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology, economics, geography etc. The Russian language is the core unit of the one-year preparatory program. Currently, RosNOU is implementing innovative curricula for pre-university training, the main goal of which is to provide students with maximum variability on the base of effective use of educational resources available at the university. Classes can be organized both in groups and individually. A combination of individual and group lessons is possible. Several programs can be selected:
After completing the course at the Foundation Studies Department and successfully passing the exams, foreign citizens receive a certificate of completion of the training course. Upon successful completion of state testing, students receive a state-recognized certificate of the level of Russian language proficiency. Knowing Russian language, foreign citizens are at liberty to continue their studies at one of the institutes of RosNOU, in RosNOU college or in any other educational institution in Russia.
For citizens of the CIS countries working in Moscow or entering RosNOU and other Russian universities, there are evening Russian language training courses.
The Foundation Studies Department has its own spacious and comfortable classrooms, library with modern textbooks and reference books (over 3,000 items), and classrooms equipped with computers. The dormitory is located in the same building as the classrooms. To ensure safety, the educational complex is provided with security infrastructure.
All students of the Foundation Studies Department are provided with visa and migrant registration support as well as assistance with obtaining medical insurance.
The teaching staff of the Department puts emphasis on extracurricular activities such as sightseeing tours around Moscow and the Moscow area, trips to Saint-Petersburg and to the Golden Ring, visits to museums and theaters, sports events, various competitions, concerts, conferences, round tables, etc. Students' participation in joint study and extracurricular activities, together with healthy interaction between foreign students and Russian students, promote establishing friendly relations and facilitate both psychological and cultural reconciliation of international students.
