In total, the best universities in 29 countries of Eastern Europe and Central Asia, including 121 Russian universities, were inserted in the rating.
On December 16, 2020, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) published the QS Emerging Europe and Central Asia University Rankings 2021.
Lomonosov Moscow State University topped the ranking; the second place was taken by the Estonian University of Tartu, the third one – by St. Petersburg State University.
Russian New University (RosNOU) was included in the group of universities ranked in the 351-400 places. In total, the rating includes the best universities in 29 countries of Eastern Europe and Central Asia, including 121 Russian universities.
The ranking was conducted according to 10 criteria, the most important of which were academic reputation (indicator weight — 30%) and graduate success (20%).

The decision to set up the ad hoc group was made by the Council of the Russian Rectors’ Union and the executive committee of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
