On 6 September 2022, Counsellor of the Embassy of Iran to Russia, the official representative of the Iranian Ministry of Science, Education and Healthcare in Russia, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor Hadi Goudarzi paid a business visit to Russian New University (RosNOU).
The receiving party consisted of: Vladimir Zernov — Rector of RosNOU, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor; Ahmad Elahi Reza — Director of RosNOU’s Center of Iranian Culture & Persian Language, Project Administrator for the Middle East, Candidate of Medical Sciences; and George Gabrielian — Director for International Affairs & Protocol at RosNOU. At the meeting there were also representatives of several Russian scientific-research organizations.
Professor Hadi Goudarzi noted that he was happy to visit the leading private university that actively develops itself in the sphere of innovation and conducts work within several scientific schools. — It’s a pleasure for me that there are so many physicists among us, — said the Counsellor, a graduate from the Faculty of Physics of Lomonosov Moscow State University.
He expressed his hope that in the near future the number of Russian citizens wishing to study in Iran would considerably increase and that the relations between the two countries would reach a new level, both in the economy and education.
In a conversation with the guest, Vladimir Zernov touched upon the main milestones in the history of relations between RosNOU and Iranian universities: the very first relations were established in 2002; since the opening of the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language at RosNOU, more than 470 Iranian students completed Russian language preparatory courses; Mehdi Sanaei, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Russian Federation (2013–2019), visited RosNOU on several occasions, including the opening of RosNOU’s Center of Iranian Culture & Persian Language in 2014, and was granted the title of Honorary Professor of the university.
Continuing the topic, George Gabrielian told the Counsellor that at that moment RosNOU had more than 10 agreements with leading Iranian universities, including Islamic Azad University, Allameh Tabataba’i University, and K. N. Toosi University of Technology, and that the university implemented considerable work in the field of teaching Russian to Iranian students and Persian — to Russian students as well as in popularizing the culture of Iran in Russia. The Director for International Affairs & Protocol also pointed out that on 20–22 October the city of Vladikavkaz would host the VI Forum of Rectors of the Leading Universities of the Russian Federation and Islamic Republic of Iran and that RosNOU would take part in it.
The participants of the meeting also raised such a topic as difficulties in exporting the education of the two countries and, among other things, in taking part in world university rankings. Students are always interested in the university’s academic reputation and it often becomes the deciding factor in their choice of a place to study.
After the meeting in the Rector’s office, the guest was invited to RosNOU’s Center of Innovative Medicine to see the joint scientific developments by RosNOU and Research and Testing Institute of Aviation and Space Medicine of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
The two organizations had made a significant contribution to the development of theoretical concepts of professional health and creation of the methodology of the qualitative assessment of health condition. The collaboration also led to the creation of a line of medical devices, including the diagnostic and restorative complex to increase the functional reserves of the body that consists of such devices as Cardiocode, Adaptolog, and Multimag. The latter, for instance, was initially created for astronaut rehabilitation but it also proved its efficiency in the post-COVID recovery.
As part of the visit, the Counsellor Hadi Goudarzi went to see RosNOU’s campus and student hostel on Aviamotornaya Street where he had an opportunity to talk to the administration and Russian language teachers of RosNOU’s Educational Center for Foreign Citizens. He also had a meeting with Iranian students who had already finished the Russian language preparatory course at the Center, learnt about their impressions of education and life in Russia, and answered their questions.
— I would like to express my gratitude to your university for being so attentive towards Iranian students, for assisting in their accommodation, and for supporting them during their studies.
