RosNOU announces results of Person of the Year Award

On 20th May 2021, Russian New University held the finale of the Person of the Year Award.

The list of the award’s nominations:

Volunteer of the Year;
Scientific Achievement of the Year;
Artist of the Year;
Breakthrough of the Year;
Project/Event of the Year;
Professor of the Year;
Person of the Year.

The winners in the nominations were chosen through voting on RosNOU’s website. Some of the candidates had been put forward by student unions and some of them had been self-nominated. All of them had to present themselves, their projects, or achievements.

Just before the results were announced, the nominees shared their emotions and expectations from the Award.

I didn’t even expect that Yegor Kolesnikov, Vika Yusheyeva and I would be nominated for this award. But if there is such an opportunity, then why not? We’ve got worthy adversaries; each of them put their heart into their projects. Of course, I’d like to win but I will be happy with any outcome. We greatly enjoyed doing our project. We arranged an online tournament in Mafia (translator’s note: a social deduction game, sometimes also called “Werewolf”), a quiz, and a New Year concert. What else is needed for a pleasant pastime among like-minded people?

I don’t have any expectations from the Award, it’s impossible to foretell who will win. I just hope that it will be fun and no one will be upset with the results.

Arut Melkonyan (Institute of Business Technologies, Advertizing and Public Relations program), nomination “Artist of the Year”

I’ve got mixed feelings about the forthcoming Award. I won’t be very disappointed if we don’t win. After all, we compete with Miss and Mr. RosNOU Contest which is the favorite. Besides, we just relished the process of preparing the New Year Trilogy, and that is the best reward. At least, for me. Of course, I will be happy if we win but I am quite content with the event we made even with no award.

This Award takes place for the second time and I hope that this year it will go as smoothly as it did last year. All nominees are worthy of victory but the winner will be the one who gets more votes. What’s good about this Award is that you can vote for a nominee based on his or her achievements and not just because you know them or because they’re popular. What I expect from the Award are good impressions and positive emotions.

RESULTS OF THE COMPETITION

The Volunteer of the Year Award went to the sophomore student of the Institute of Technologies for Humanities Lolita Tulkibayeva. She received the award from the hands of the winner of the last year, fourth-year student of the Law Institute Polina Galkina.

Vice-Rector for Education Grigoriy A. Shabanov presented the Scientific Achievement of the Year Award to the participants of the scientific school “Thermodynamic Ecology”.

Head of the International Affairs & Academic Mobility Directorate George A. Gabrielian handed out the Breakthrough Award to the representative of RosNOU’s E-Sports Club, third-year student of the Institute of Information Systems and Computer Engineering Technologies Mikhail Golubev.

The Artist of the Year Award was taken by the first-year student of the Institute of Information Systems and Computer Engineering Technologies Viktoriya Fursenko. She received the award from the winner of the last year, sophomore student of the Law Institute Mikhail Fyodorov.

Last year, when I was nominated for the Artist of the Year, I was on pins and needles. Nervousness is always there, both before a performance on the stage and during the announcement of the voting results. It is probably one of the scariest and, at the same time, the most pleasant feelings for an artist because when you don't feel excited anymore, you've got no reason to come on the stage.

Mikhail Fyodorov

The Project/ Event of the Year Award went to third-year students of the Institute of Technologies for Humanities and the Institute of Business Technologies Karina Danilova and Viktoriya Turgunova who organized the contest Mr. and Miss RosNOU 2021. The students received the award from the Head of Department for Youth Affairs Natalia V. Buturova.

The winner in the Professor of the Year nomination became Anna M. Balykina. She got the award from the hands of the Professor of 2020 Svetlana E. Vorobyeva.

The main award in the Person of the Year nomination went to the third-year student of the Institute of Business Technologies Viktoriya Turgunova. She received the award from last year's winner Nikita Seleznyov.

I would like to thank the audience who regularly come to the events arranged by the Student Board. It means a lot to us. And I would also like to thank my coordinator Viktoriya Turgunova because it wouldn’t have worked out without her.

Thanks a lot to everyone who voted for us and supported us. Last year we were also nominated in this category but winning this year is more significant as everything is held offline. We are not going to become complacent; we are going to move forward. We’ve got a lot to do. Everything’s ahead of us!

Professor Anna M. Balykina

Honestly, I didn’t expect at all that I would win. All the nominees in my category are very strong: Anastasiya Kozlova (Institute of Business Technologies), Anna Koscheyeva (Institute of Economics, Management and Finance), and Semyon Semenchekov (Institute of Economics, Management and Finance). They all do a lot for the university. And it’s a pleasure to me that you see and appreciate what RosNOU’s Student Board does for you. It is the Student Board that nominated me for the award, and I am happy that our work has gained this kind of recognition.

Viktoriya Turgunova

The host at the Award’s finale became the sophomore student of the Institute of Business Technologies Yegor Kolesnikov. Apart from finding out the results of the voting, the audience had a chance to see performances of RosNOU’s Vocal Studio and women’s team “Beyond the Line” of RosNOU’s Club of the Cheerful and Sharp-Witted.
